Welcome!
We are the Midland County Democratic Party (MCDP) in Midland, Michigan.
In December, 2021, the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission (MICRC), a group of randomly selected citizens tasked with redrawing legislative voting districts for the next decade using 2020 Census results, finished its final work to change the lines for the state House, state Senate and U.S. Congressional House districts.
Under the MICRC’s “final” voting maps, all of Midland County and a southern section of Gladwin County are included in the Hickory map’s new 95th state House District.
MICRC’s final state Senate (Linden) redistricting map has voters in Midland County being split between Districts 34 and 35. The City of Midland will vote in the new 35th Senate District.
MICRC’s final congressional (Chestnut) map has voters in Midland County split between the newly drawn U.S. Congressional District 2 and U.S. Congressional District 8, with the western third of Midland county included in the western part of the state.
Voters in the eastern two thirds of the county, including the City of Midland, will cast their ballots in newly redrawn 8th congressional district.
The primary mission of MCDP is to support qualified local candidates. We are an organization committed to representing all the Democratic and progressive voices of Midland County. New members and visitors are always welcome. We want to generate enthusiasm and energy for progressive ideals and turn it in action now and in the next election.
Sign up for our email updates and receive the latest news about important local and state meetings, events, calls-to-action, information about candidates and upcoming elections.
You will also get a chance meet other like-minded people and see what they are doing to remain informed, engaged and sane. We can come together around our shared values.
We will collaborate with other local, state, and grassroots organizations to elect qualified and moral candidates to the various local, state and national offices.
Volunteers will make a huge impact on what we can achieve. We will hold voter registration events, campaign for candidates, fundraise for candidates, train candidates, canvas and make phone calls. We will attend other organizations’ meetings to continue fostering relationships and collaborating toward a shared vision.
Our page offers resources for voters to engage at the local, state and national levels of government and community. We appreciate your interest in the MCDP and would love to see you at the next meeting!
Normally our monthly Midland County Democratic Party meetings take place at 7:00 pm in the County Building, 220 W. Ellsworth, on the third Wednesday of the month. Due to social distancing and the Covid-19 pandemic, however, all future MCDP meetings will be conducted virtually using the free Zoom video conferencing and real-time messaging app. We do not meet in August or in December.
There are lots of ways to get involved and make your voice heard. We’re always interested in gaining new members or finding a way to volunteer that’s right for you. Contact us and together we can make a difference.
